These are the books beginning with Solomon’s reign (about 971 B.C.) The author was interested in Israel’s faithfulness to God and his covenant and wrote about each king showing how he/she was faithful or unfaithful to God. He often used the phrase, “did what was right in the eyes of the Lord,’ or did eveil in the eyes of the Lord,” to describe the goodness or wickedness of the king. Like the book of Judges, the author records that when Israel was obedient God brought peace to the land, but when the people wer disobedient and worshiped idols the land of Israel suffered wars and other disasters. “This also has the story of Elijah, which is one of my favorites. He worked tirelessly to warn Israel of the evils of allowing worship to other God’s in their land. It’s an amazing story of God’s power, and promises. Elijah was taken up to heaven by a chariot of fire. Hope you enjoy it, we can learn many lessons for today from these 2 books.”
