Media admits being manipulated by White House/The Jot

By The Jot Christians and conservatives often point out how the mainstream news media is no longer doing its job as the “fourth estate,” that is, holding accountable politicians, especially the occupant of the Oval Office. Writers Jim VandeHei and Mike Allen of Politico.com have written a story about how the occupant is “the puppet master.” It gives a lot of detail about how the White House controls the messages it gives to the news media and uses social media and scheduling to bypass the mainstream media in generating “content” [translate: propaganda] for the general public. In short, the story says the occupant is far more expert than any other president at distributing his propaganda and controlling his message.

Examples…When Elena Kagan was nominated for the Supreme Court, Politico says, she gave one interview–to White House TV, produced by the president’s aides. Another example is that the occupant shuts down interviews with reporters who ask the toughest questions. The story quotes ABC News White House reporter Ann Compton, who has covered every president since Gerald Ford: “The way the president’s availability to the press has shrunk in the last two years is a disgrace…The president’s day-to-day policy development–on immigration, on guns–is almost totally opaque to the reporters trying to do a responsible job of covering it…This White House goes to extreme lengths to keep the press away.”

VandeHei and Allen write, “The results are transformational. With more technology, and fewer resources at many media companies, the balance of power between the White House and press has tipped unmistakably toward the government. This is an arguably dangerous development. They write that president’s “aides are better at using technology and exploiting the president’s “brand” and have done so both “cleverly and ruthlessly.” They report that White House aides are “more disciplined about cracking down on staff that leak, or reporters who write things they don’t like. And they are obsessed with taking advantage of Twitter, Facebook, YouTube and every other social media forums, not just for campaigns, but governing.”

The story goes on to say that the conservative perspective of a cozy relationship between reporters and the White House is wrong because the president is aloof and cocky when he talks to reporters and the reporters worry that if they ask the tough questions, their interview opportunities and access will decrease. My message to the mainstream media: Quit being cry babies. Cover the news. Tell it like it is and expose this Administration at every juncture. Do your job. Don’t be bullied. John 3:20 says, “For every one that does evil hates the light, neither comes to the light, lest his deeds should be reproved.” These journalists need to quit whining about the great manipulator and expose him. But how can they do so when they themselves do not have the Light of Truth?

Have A Blessed And Powerful Day,

Bill Wilson
