TONOPAH, Nev. — A magnitude 4.0 earthquake struck in a part of west-central Nevada near the California line that has been shaking for some time now.
The latest temblor was recorded at 7:29 a.m. Thursday southeast of Hawthorne and northwest of Tonopah, about 25 miles south of Mina near the intersections of U.S. Highway 95 and 6.
The Mineral County Sheriff’s reports no damage.
The Nevada Seismological Laboratory says it is was an aftershock from a 5.1 quake that hit in the same area on Feb. 12. It’s in almost the identical spot as a 3.5 magnitude quake recorded on Sunday near Coldale Junction.
Over the past week, dozens of tiny earthquakes less than 2.0 have been recorded in that seismically-active region southeast of Yosemite National Park and north of Bishop, Calif.
