Prophecy Of Elijah Coming To Herald The Return Of The Messiah-Fulfilled?

We’re coming up on Easter, reflecting what it means to us as Christians.  I’m going to keep this simple.  I want to point out  the scriptures that tell what Jesus said about the coming of Elijah to herald the coming of the Messiah.  We must stick to the doctrine and Gospel that Christ gave us, when discerning sound doctrine.  We are not to stray from this.  Otherwise, Christ’s sacrifice will be for nothing.  I know there is a movement that wants to stray from this, but when in doubt, search the scriptures.

Luke 1:17 (The Angel Gabriel telling Zechariah about the Birth of his son (John the Baptist)

  • And he will go on before the Lord, in the spirit and power of Elijah, to turn the hearts of the fathers to their children and the disobedient to the wisdom of the righteous-to make ready a people prepared for the Lord.

Mark 9:10, Mathew 17: 11-13

After the transfiguration of Christ, the disciples (Peter, James and John the brother of James)  asked Jesus this question ‘Why then do the teachers of the law say that Elijah must come first?’  He replied:

  • To be sure, Elijah comes and will restore all things.
  • But I tell you, Elijah has already come, and they did not recognize him, but have done to him everything they wished.
  • In the same way the Son of Man is going to suffer at their hands.
  • Then the disciples understood that he was talking to them about John the Baptist.

  3. Interesting article. I would like to discuss starting with some questions:

    1) Why is it a man named “Zerubbabel” in Zechariah 4:9-10 who holds a measuring line for the temple yet it is a man named “John” in Revelation 11:1-2 who holds a measuring line for the temple?
    2) Why is it a man named “Zerubbabel” in Haggai 2:20-23 who is given authority before kings yet it is a man named “John” in Revelation 10:11 who is given authority before kings?
    3) Why is it that a man named “Zerubbabel” is the only name mentioned in Zechariah 4 where the two olive trees are spoken of but yet it is a man named “John” who is the only name mentioned in Revelation 11 where the two olive trees (two witnesses) are spoken of?
    4) Why is “Joshua” the high priest crowned BEFORE “Zerubbabel” who is to become God’s signet “IN THAT DAY”?
    5) Why did the angel Gabriel give the name of “Jesus” to Mary’s child when Isaiah gave His name as “Immanuel”, and why did Gabriel give the name “John” to Elizabeth’s child when no one in the family had that name?

    The key to understanding is acceptance that the prophecy of Joshua and Zerubbabel was a symbolic prophecy. They would not fulfill the prophecies spoken of them but instead two men (branches) would come in the future from their lifetimes to fulfill them.

    Names have meaning throughout Scriptures. Immanuel means “God is with us”. Just as Immanuel has a significant meaning, so does Zerubbabel which means “the one sown of Babylon” or “seed of Babylon” referring to a child conceived and born in Babylon. Since Joshua and Zerubbabel did not fulfill all that was prophesied of them during their lifetime, this means that it was a symbolic prophecy with two (branches) to come in the future from Haggai’s and Zechariah’s time to fulfill the prophecies.

    Joshua was introduced as a son of a high priest but then later as a high priest himself, He was clothed with filthy garments but then clothed with rich robes. He was told that he will judge the LORD’s house and take charge of His courts if he walked in His ways and followed His command. Then the LORD told Joshua that He would bring forth a Branch and remove the iniquity of that land in one day. Finally, Joshua is crowned and shown another branch.

    Who fulfilled the prophecy of Joshua? I will let you figure that out. Let me show you what the name Joshua means using Wikipedia as a source: The English name Joshua is a rendering of the Hebrew language “Yehoshua”, meaning “Yahweh is salvation”. … “Jesus” is the English of the Greek transliteration of “Yehoshua” via Latin. In the Septuagint, all instances of the word “Yehoshua” are rendered as “Ἰησοῦς” (Iēsoūs), the closest Greek pronunciation of the Aramaic “Yeshua”…”

    Hebrews 5:5-11 (NKJV) – “5 So also Christ did not glorify Himself to become High Priest, but it was He who said to Him:
    “You are My Son,
    Today I have begotten You.”
    6 As He also says in another place:
    “You are a priest forever
    According to the order of Melchizedek”;
    7 who, in the days of His flesh, when He had offered up prayers and supplications, with vehement cries and tears to Him who was able to save Him from death, and was heard because of His godly fear, 8 though He was a Son, yet He learned obedience by the things which He suffered. 9 And having been perfected, He became the author of eternal salvation to all who obey Him, 10 called by God as High Priest “according to the order of Melchizedek,” 11 of whom we have much to say, and hard to explain, since you have become dull of hearing.”

    Hebrews 10:11-14 (NKJV) – “11 And every priest stands ministering daily and offering repeatedly the same sacrifices, which can never take away sins. 12 But this Man, after He had offered one sacrifice for sins forever, sat down at the right hand of God, 13 from that time waiting till His enemies are made His footstool. 14 For by one offering He has perfected forever those who are being sanctified.”

    Acts 3:17-26 (NKJV) – “17 “Yet now, brethren, I know that you did it in ignorance, as did also your rulers. 18 But those things which God foretold by the mouth of all His prophets, that the Christ would suffer, He has thus fulfilled. 19 Repent therefore and be converted, that your sins may be blotted out, so that times of refreshing may come from the presence of the Lord, 20 and that He may send Jesus Christ, who was preached to you before, 21 whom heaven must receive until the times of restoration of all things, which God has spoken by the mouth of all His holy prophets since the world began. 22 For Moses truly said to the fathers, ‘The LORD your God will raise up for you a Prophet like me from your brethren. Him you shall hear in all things, whatever He says to you. 23 And it shall be that every soul who will not hear that Prophet shall be utterly destroyed from among the people.’ 24 Yes, and all the prophets, from Samuel and those who follow, as many as have spoken, have also foretold these days. 25 You are sons of the prophets, and of the covenant which God made with our fathers, saying to Abraham, ‘And in your seed all the families of the earth shall be blessed.’ 26 To you first, God, having raised up His Servant Jesus, sent Him to bless you, in turning away every one of you from your iniquities.”

    Our Lord Jesus sits at the right hand of the Father crowned with majesty, glory, and authority as a High Priest…WAITING FOR RESTORATION AND FOR HIS ENEMIES TO BE MADE INTO HIS FOOTSTOOL!

    Who does this restoration and preparation? You know! A servant who will be given great authority…LIKE GOD’S SIGNET RING! He is a hidden servant chosen to restore Israel (Isaiah 49), a chosen man to lead God’s people away from destroyed Babylon to Jerusalem which is far away (Jeremiah 50:44-46, Zechariah 6:15), a messenger (Malachi 3:1), a temple builder (Zechariah 4:8-10, Zechariah 6:12-13, Malachi 3:1, Revelation 11:1-2), a prophet of the Most High (Malachi 4:4-6), a servant who will prophesy before kings (Haggai 2:20-23, Revelation 10:11), a crowned warrior who comes to conquer those kingdoms who refuse to submit to the Kingdom of God and its King who returns on clouds of heaven with great power and glory (Revelation 6:2), and a witness along with his brother (just like Moses and Aaron) who will call down plagues on those kingdoms who refuse to submit for those kingdoms will be considered the enemies of Christ (Haggai 2:20-23, Revelation 11:3-13).

    What is his name? Remember the questions I asked earlier!

    Isaiah 49:1-2 (NKJV) –
    “Listen, O coastlands, to Me,
    And take heed, you peoples from afar!
    The LORD has called Me from the womb;
    From the matrix of My mother He has made mention of My name.
    2 And He has made My mouth like a sharp sword;
    In the shadow of His hand He has hidden Me,
    And made Me a polished shaft;
    In His quiver He has hidden Me.”

    His name is…John! A man named John comes AGAIN in the spirit and power of Elijah to prophesy to the world!

    Revelation 10:11 (NKJV) – “11 And he said to me, “You must prophesy again about many peoples, nations, tongues, and kings.”

    What kingdom does he start in? Babylon…his birth nation!

    Haggai 2:18-23 (NKJV) –
    “18 ‘Consider now from this day forward, from the twenty-fourth day of the ninth month, from the day that the foundation of the LORD’s temple was laid—consider it: 19 Is the seed still in the barn? As yet the vine, the fig tree, the pomegranate, and the olive tree have not yielded fruit. But from this day I will bless you.’” 20 And again the word of the LORD came to Haggai on the twenty-fourth day of the month, saying, 21 “Speak to Zerubbabel, governor of Judah, saying:
    ‘I will shake heaven and earth.
    22 I will overthrow the throne of kingdoms;
    I will destroy the strength of the Gentile kingdoms.
    I will overthrow the chariots
    And those who ride in them;
    The horses and their riders shall come down,
    Every one by the sword of his brother.
    23 ‘In that day,’ says the LORD of hosts, ‘I will take you, Zerubbabel My servant, the son of Shealtiel,’ says the LORD, ‘and will make you like a signet ring; for I have chosen you,’ says the LORD of hosts.”

    Jeremiah 50:44-46 (NKJV) –
    “44 “Behold, he shall come up like a lion from the floodplain of the Jordan
    Against the dwelling place of the strong;
    But I will make them suddenly run away from her.
    And who is a chosen man that I may appoint over her?
    For who is like Me?
    Who will arraign Me?
    And who is that shepherd
    Who will withstand Me?”
    45 Therefore hear the counsel of the LORD that He has taken against Babylon,
    And His purposes that He has proposed against the land of the Chaldeans:
    Surely the least of the flock shall draw them out;
    Surely He will make their dwelling place desolate with them.
    46 At the noise of the taking of Babylon
    The earth trembles,
    And the cry is heard among the nations.”

    This man is the child who WAS born in end-time Babylon . He is the chosen man of Babylon. She is the first kingdom for she has turned against the LORD. She was His but she turned away from Him and has become a harlot. Judgment begins with the house of God. Surely you have heard it spoken in 1 Peter 4:17 (NKJV) – “For the time has come for judgment to begin at the house of God; and if it begins with us first, what will be the end of those who do not obey the gospel of God?”

    His Hebrew name is John. His mother’s Hebrew name is Elizabeth. He was born on Whirlwind Road (Zip Code 37743) on the 24th of December of 1967 which is the year that Israel captured the Temple Mount.

    His mother’s maiden name is Malone. Malone is a family name from the Irish “Mael Eòin” of which the name means a servant or a disciple of Saint John. The family shield has a lion with three stars (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Malone)

    “Mael” is an old Celtic name from Ireland, Wales and Brittany. The French masculine name of Breton origin meaning “chief, prince.”

    “Eoin” is an Irish name, cognate with John. In the Irish language, it is the name used for all Biblical figures known as John in English, including John the Baptist and John the Apostle.

    Isaiah 49:1-2 (NKJV) –
    “Listen, O coastlands, to Me,
    And take heed, you peoples from afar!
    The LORD has called Me from the womb;
    From the matrix of My mother He has made mention of My name.
    2 And He has made My mouth like a sharp sword;
    In the shadow of His hand He has hidden Me,
    And made Me a polished shaft;
    In His quiver He has hidden Me.”

    My name is…John!

    The Lord Jesus appeared to me and said “Arise!” and showed me the scar on His left hand from which judgment comes.

    CHILDREN OF GOD, AWAKEN AND ARISE! THE DAY OF THE LORD IS AT HAND!

    AMERICA, YOU HAVE DONE EVIL IN THE SIGHT OF THE LORD! JUDGMENT COMES FOR YOU FIRST!

    FLEE FROM BABYLON! FLEE FROM THE FIERCE ANGER OF THE LORD!

  6. The Scriptures also say that Elijah will come again… Malachi 4.

    John the Baptist indeed came in the Spirit of Elijah, but it will happen again as he restores the sons to the fathers (Abraham, Isaac and Jacob) and he leads the people out of Samaria/Babylon.

    Shalom.
