At the risk of giving away my age, I grew up in a time when the worst thing you might see on TV was the evening news. OK, there may
have been some other stuff in prime time but it was very mild compared with today’s programing. We now live in a time of free wheeling lifestyles and extremely light censorship. It is an “anything goes” society we live in and it is not getting any better. As Christians in this society, we must be the light in the dark as we move through this life. If we simply stop our lives for a brief moment and take a good look around us, we will see all the darkness which exists in this world. It has crept in as the dark cloud of a coming storm as it blankets the horizon. This darkness didn’t move in with a rapid approach, it began in the garden when Adam and Eve disobeyed the Lord and it has been getting thicker through every moment of time. What we would see when we look around would be horrifying; things which have been slowly creeping in and surrounding us would be clearly seen. There are so many evil practices which engulf the areas of our lives and many times we simply ignore them or we are so busy we simply don’t recognize them.
I get tired of turning on the local evening news and hearing the same things, the same stories; a person was shot here or a person was killed there, this bank was robbed, a car chase which results in a shooting and a death. I don’t have to watch the news every evening because I already know what the reports are going to be. This is the society we live in and if we simply turn off the news or choose to ignore it, it won’t go away. We need to do what Jesus commissioned us to do, spread the gospel, tell people the good news, there is a way out of this mess. Now, I wouldn’t recommend we go into those most dangerous neighborhoods to evangelize, unless God has specifically called you to. There are ways to reach these people who are trapped in the cycle of life which includes all the darkness. You may be familiar with the testimony of David Wilkerson¹ and his call to the worst part of New York City to witness to Nicki Cruz. Nicki was the leader of the worst gang in the worst part of the city and Wilkerson knew God had sent him there and he refused to give up. Cruz was eventually saved and went on to do great works for God himself. This doesn’t mean every person is called to do this. It can be as simple as being a witness to that one person you work with. You might get involved in a street witnessing ministry at the church you attend or your local church may be involved in public outreach and you can be a part of that type of ministry. There are many different ways we can reach out to the lost in our local world; we just need to do it. You can be the light in the dark.
For those Christians who have become so busy in their lives they can’t see the darkness, they must come out of the fog which can hide those evil things which are in the darkness. For those who have their spiritual eyes wide open, it is easy for them to see some of the evil activities taking place. Abortion has been legal since 1973 and millions upon millions of unborn babies have died as a result of this evil, legal, activity. In fact, since 1973, the total number of abortions in the United States is almost 56 million!! The average number of abortions in this country has declined to about 1.2 million per year. Declined! That is just about 1.2 million too many. This information can be found at: http://www.nrlc.org/Factsheets/FS03_AbortionInTheUS.pdf
So, what do we do about the problem of abortion? Do we chain ourselves to the front doors of the clinics, do we protest in front of the clinics, blocking the entrances? Or, do we shoot the abortion doctors when they show up for work? My answer to each of these questions is a very strong no. These are the activities which used to take place in front of abortion clinics back in the ’80s. Christians were chaining themselves to the doors of the clinics and then getting arrested for it. That is a great testimony for Jesus. Yes, picture or imagine Jesus acting this way; I can’t see it myself. There are ministries in place within the Church who reach out to the women who are seeking information on abortion or who are considering abortion. The easiest thing to remember is this: if you know someone who is considering abortion, talk to them, show them the love of Jesus and seek His guidance and wisdom as you prepare to speak to this person. You may be the exact instrument the Lord is seeking to use in this very situation.Get involved in their lives, be the light which will allow them to know the truth. The truth is God’s word and it tells us that there is life in the womb of the mother. Pro abortion activists will tell the lie that there is no life in the womb. Maybe this will ease their conscience. Left leaning political figures have found a way of easing their consciences by calling abortion, women’s health. The Bible is clear about life in the womb.
You made all the delicate, inner parts of my body
and knit me together in my mother’s womb.
Thank you for making me so wonderfully complex!
Your workmanship is marvelous—how well I know it. Psalm 139:13-14 NLT http://www.biblegateway.com“I knew you before I formed you in your mother’s womb.
Before you were born I set you apart
and appointed you as my prophet to the nations.” Jer 1:5 NLT
God is the creator of life and as we read in the scriptures above. He starts that life in the womb of the mother. Supporters of abortion either tell themselves continuous lies concerning abortion or their hearts are extremely cold and they have no respect for life at all. We have criminals in our prisons who share this problem; they have killed other people in cold blood and have shown no remorse at all. We have seen this most recently in mass shootings. Is this a type of behavior someone would want to share? These are defenseless babies who are being murdered in cold blood. I know that some will bring up the issues of rape, incest or a potential birth defect and those are extremely hard issues to cope with but, it is still a human life and it is still the taking of a life.
There is another thick cloud of darkness which has been growing darker and darker in recent years. The gay rights movement has been lobbying extremely hard for gay marriage and they have had some success in a number of states in this country. This past week, there were two cases heard in the highest court in this country, the US Supreme Court, and both concerned the legality of gay marriage in this country. This agenda has been steamrolling for some time now and has gained much momentum and it is not just from the gay community. There are many heterosexual people in this country who are strong supporters of this movement. They are from all walks of life; professional athletes have spoken out in favor of this movement as well as the normal (or abnormal) Hollywood crowd; the person you work with, your neighbor and many others support this movement. What I am trying to say is this: Sin doesn’t discriminate; it will affect the life of any human being. This movement is just one type of sin, sexual immorality. This sin is no different from any other; we have all had our battles with sin, some worse than others. The bottom line is this, sin is sin and what makes this sin so overwhelming is what it does to the family and the individual. According to certain polls, the support for this agenda in this country is about 50%. Now, I don’t always put a lot of faith in these kind of polls because the number of people surveyed is usually small in comparison to the population of this country. But, even if it is at 20 or 30 percent, that is still a large number. This country has sold out to sin; it is a country of free wheeling lifestyles and anything goes. Actually, the US hasn’t cornered the market on gay lifestyles, this is a world-wide issue.
For the Christian who may be wrestling with this issue or agenda, the only way to clearly understand what is right and what is wrong is to defer to the Bible. Now, the gay community will call us bigots and narrow-minded people who are living in the stone age but being a Christian requires a type of narrow mind. We must not adhere to the ways of the world and its sinful ways. We must always strive to live our lives according to what God’s word tells and teaches us. If that is being narrow-minded, well then, I’m narrow-minded. But, it doesn’t mean we have a license to belittle, resort to hatred or to wrongfully judge those who may be living in this lifestyle.I choose to disagree with this lifestyle because I am a Christian who believes what the Bible says. That doesn’t mean I hate those who are gay or want to see them banished to hell for eternity. I want to tell them about Jesus as much as anyone else is not saved. As with anyone who does not know Jesus as their savior, we are to be the light which brings the good news of Jesus into their lives. It doesn’t matter what the sin is, Jesus is in the business of changes hearts and lives. I have personally witnessed Jesus sober a man who was freaked out on speed. As we prayed for this man, he was immediately sobered and brought back to his right state of mind. Jesus can change hearts and He can deliver sinners from their sinful lifestyle immediately, if they allow Him. The sin of homosexuality is no different and I know those involved in this lifestyle refuse to acknowledge this truth. They believe they were born this way because that is what this sinful world has told them. The devil will tell lies to deceive people into living in sin and thinking it is right.
These people are false apostles. They are deceitful workers who disguise themselves as apostles of Christ. But I am not surprised! Even Satan disguises himself as an angel of light. 2 Cor 11:13-14
This is the main form of operation for Satan; he will twist and distort the truth and lie to people just to get them involved in a sinful lifestyle and make it seem just fine. People are trapped in sin all over the world today and don’t realize there is a way of escape, Jesus. Instead of mocking the gay community or sitting in front of the TV and yelling off colored remarks when the evening news covers these stories, we need to pray that the eyes of those who are trapped in this lifestyle will be opened to see Jesus. There has to be the light shining into their lives so they can know Jesus as their savior and be delivered from this life of entrapment.
There is one thing we need to remember; the world is growing more and more sinful. Jesus tells us in His word that the time of the end will be as it was in the days of Noah (Mt 24:37-39). Read that passage and then read Genesis 6 and then look around at our world. You can’t help but see the similarities as far as a sin filled world is concerned. Am I saying the end is near? Yes and no; what I am saying is we have been in the times of the end; the end time began with the birth of the Church. I don’t think it will get any better. If you know the Bible and are a student of it, you will know and recognize our progression toward the end. We are living in those times and the dark clouds have gathered overhead and all around us. The gay community will grow stronger in their bidding for everything they want. Satan will lead the way for them and God has already given it to them but, does not approve. You might be shocked by that last statement but allow me to show you why I would say that.
That is why God abandoned them to their shameful desires. Even the women turned against the natural way to have sex and instead indulged in sex with each other. And the men, instead of having normal sexual relations with women, burned with lust for each other. Men did shameful things with other men, and as a result of this sin, they suffered within themselves the penalty they deserved. Rom 1:26-27
Now, for those who would want to twist this to mean God approves of the homosexual lifestyle, allow me to show you why He doesn’t.
Don’t you realize that those who do wrong will not inherit the Kingdom of God? Don’t fool yourselves. Those who indulge in sexual sin, or who worship idols, or commit adultery, or are male prostitutes, or practice homosexuality, or are thieves, or greedy people, or drunkards, or are abusive, or cheat people—none of these will inherit the Kingdom of God. 1 Cor 6:9-10
God is a just God and He would never keep anyone out of His kingdom, heaven, for living in a way He approves of. But, this passage is very clear when it states that these lifestyles will not be permitted entrance into heaven. A person can remove the word, homosexuality, but they still have deal with the two words, sexual sin. A gay life style is a life of sexual sin. These people, living in these lifestyles, have been deceived by Satan into believing there is nothing wrong by living this way. But, when we decide to be the light which brings Jesus to them, they will have the opportunity to know Him as their savior and be delivered from their life of sin.
This is the time of the year when the Church and Christians around the world remember what Jesus did for us; He died on a cross to pay the debt which sin required and only He could pay that price. He didn’t have to do that for us but because He loves us so much, He did do it. There is no sin or sinful lifestyle which is bigger than Jesus. There is no sin that can’t be forgiven by Jesus. Those involved in abortion or the gay community are not beyond the reach of Jesus and salvation; there is nothing greater than God and what His Son, Jesus Christ, has done for us. Be the light which the sinful world needs to see and tell them about Jesus and what He has done for us!
