A solar wind stream is expected to brush against Earth’s magnetic field on April 6-7, possibly causing geomagnetic disturbances around the poles. Arctic sky watchers should be alert for auroras beaming through the waxing twilight of northern spring.
This stream could spark the Northern and Southern Lights. Although not created by a CME< high latitude observers should be able to see the event. Not long ago, a major display brought auroras down to Colorado, which had photographers snapping their shutters.
At the current time, a large sunspot is crossing the center of the solar disk. While it may look large and dangerous, it’s magnetic properties suggests that no large flares are likely from it at this time. So the threat of Earth blasting solar flares is low.
