My father used to tell me to think about one thing when I was out in the world, and that this would help to deter sin. He said to ask yourself this question: ‘Is it of the world? Would you want the Lord to find you doing it when He returns? Great advice, I wished I’d followed it more. I use this now as a gauge. I’m always looking into my heart for unrepentant sin, but this is one warning that we as all Christians should heed. And it comes from the Apostle John. It is in 1John chapter 2.
Do Not Love The World
- ‘Do not love the world or anything in the world. If anyone loves the world, the love of the Father is not in him.
- For everything in the world–the cravings of sinful man, the lust of his eyes and the boasting of what he has and does–come not from the Father, but from the world.
- The world and its desires pass away, but the man who does the will of god lives forever.
Pretty clear huh? It’s my opinion that we should examine ourselves to make sure we’re not in with love the world. I’ve heard it all about the defense of the prosperity gospel. But what does this teach us? It teaches us that if we want a 6 figure job, if we want a new house, if we want a new car etc… all we have to do is name it and claim it and ask God and it will be ours. Ok, so does the above sound like that is what John is teaching? Or does it sound more like humanistic, worldly teaching? If you don’t know the difference, spend some time with God, in the scriptures. Jesus tells us a lot about this.
As John say’s ‘The hour is late.’ I’m looking up, this world is not my home! I’m just passing through. My reward is in Heaven! Where’s your’s?
He’s Coming, He’s Close, Can you fell Him?
