(Daily Mail)  Transportation Security Administration agents have discovered what appears to be a human skull and teeth inside a pot two Cuban priestesses were carrying onto a flight.

The two ladies, who are part of the Santeria religion that originated in West Africa were heading from Fort Lauderdale to Baltimore on Wednesday when the bag was discovered.

Broward Sheriff’s Office confiscated the pot for examination and the two women claimed they purchased it at a religious shop, saying the items are for ‘protection’.

The sheriff’s office said that the body parts were found when a piece of the sealed pottery broke open. The pot also contained rocks and dirt. A second sealed pot remained intact.

Deputies say the women told them they had visited Cuba earlier in the week and had bought the pots at a store selling religious items.

The women avoided being arrested as sheriff’s said that they had no idea how the body parts came to be in the pottery they purchased in Cuba

No charges will be filed against the two ladies since they were unaware that the bone fragments were in the pots as they were sealed.

Broward Sheriff’s Office have said they will be in touch with Cuban officials about the discovery and the women were allowed to board their flight to Baltimore.

The bones are currently at the medical examiner’s office for further evaluation and confirmation. The Department of Homeland Security is now handling the investigation.

‘It’s very possible that they had no idea what was inside,’ said BSO spokesman Mike Jachles to The Miami Herald.

‘They were both sealed when they bought them.’
