A strong ‘winter storm’ is poised to hit the Plains to Midwest, bringing a rare heavy snowfall event across the area.

Something like this is extremely rare for this time of year, almost opposite of what it should be.  When forecast models had it dropping well east of the area, TheWeatherSpace.com projections were the only ones that showed it west into Nebraska and Iowa.  This is done by not using models, but by using actual meteorology.  Models today ruin what forecast weather is, a challenge.

But, on Wednesday and Thursday the heaviest snow should fall.  Another article will be available with statistics and if any warnings from TheWeatherSpace.com’s Winter Alerts will be issued for state areas.

For now, it looks as if the heaviest snowfall will be in Kansas, Nebraska, Iowa, Minnesota, and Wisconsin.  Other areas of heavy snowfall will be across the Wyoming and Colorado zones, including the Denver areas.

050113cSnowfall will make it down all the way to West Texas! This is a very unusual system with low temperatures in the 30s and freezing for the most part through the entire area.

For now all we can do is display risks, so if you are near them, give or take 50-100 miles on each side, you should continue to monitor the latest weather forecasts.

It is also worth a note that HS readings were building over the area for quite sometime now, enhancing the forecast guidance.
