A meteorological phenomenon known as the ‘Atmospheric River’ is looking likely for the Pacific Northwest starting Friday and lasting through the Weekend into next week.
A series of storm systems with deep moisture influences will hit the Pacific Northwest starting Friday. The strongest one is over the weekend, Saturday into Sunday. The chart here at TheWeatherSpace.com clearly shows the flood risk being in the high category for major cities in the Willamette Valley up through Puget Sound. The Olympic Peninsula is showing and Extreme Risk all the way down the WA/OR coastal and coastal range zones.
By looking at the chart one can see the rain-shadow effect the Cascades gives on the Central and Eastern portions of Washington. However, since Spokane is further away from the rain-shadow, renewed rainfall will strike those areas, with mainly low risk flooding and some upper elevations of Northeastern Washington in the high risk flood category
