This you tube video speaks for itself.  We are called into a Discipleship with Christ from the beginning.  Jesus said ‘Go and make Disciples of all men.’  I think we’ve forgotten what that means.

This video consists of excerpts I’ve taken from the book “The Cost of Discipleship” published in 1937 by Lutheran theologian Dietrich Bonhoeffer. The accompanying music is the composition “Air” by 18th century composer Johann Sebastian Bach (who was himself a devoted Lutheran).

  1. Somewhere in the middle of the rhetoric regarding faith v. works is the core of Bonhoeffer’s creed. It appears that he rejects the most popular Calvinist (or hyper-Calvinist) positions to assert sanctification by the working of the Holy Spirit through us as a means to holiness. I accept this position, as T.U.L.I.P. makes no sense to me. The effort we make to follow the unction of the Holy Spirit in the way of righteousness is the cost of discipleship.
