My Comment: I can’t begin to fathom what these people in Sudan are enduring. Pray for the People of Sudan. Pray for the people of So. Africa. Pray for caring hands, comfort and peace.
Until a few weeks ago, the biggest United Nations base in South Sudan was off-limits to ordinary civilians. Today, this beleaguered compound has been transformed into one of the most densely populated places on Earth.
At least 17,000 refugees live on about 45 acres of sun-baked ground – an area smaller than 25 football pitches.
Their ragtag shelters, fashioned from sheets and blankets, compete for space with water tanks and pit latrines whose smell pervades the swelteringly congested, fetid patch of land.
Yet for all the squalor, it still provides an unlikely haven for fugitives of South Sudan’s civil war.
A perimeter fence of barbed wire, patrolled by peacekeeping troops, rings the UN base in the capital, Juba. The refugees see it as their only place of safety.
