The World Health Organization say’s that 60 aid workers have died. Samaritans Purse, the Peace Corp and other aid organizations are evacuating their staff from stricken areas. There is no cure for this disease, it is fatal, it appears all that can be done is to treat the symptoms.
The spread of the deadly Ebola virus is out of control and the effects could be ‘catastrophic’, the World Health Organisation said last night. The outbreak of the disease, the worst since it was discovered in the mid-1970s, has so far caused 729 deaths in four different countries. At the moment its spread is contained to West Africa, but there are growing fears that it could hit the UK.Last night WHO director-general Margaret Chan said: ‘This outbreak is moving faster than our efforts to control it. If the situation continues to deteriorate, the consequences can be catastrophic in terms of lost lives, severe socioeconomic disruption and a high risk of spread to other countries.’Ebola ‘moving faster than efforts to control it’ and WHO warn virus could spread | Mail Online.
(Wikipedia) In February 2014, a strain of the Ebola Virus appeared in Guinea. This is the first Ebola virus outbreak registered in the region. As of April 10, 157 suspected and confirmed cases and 101 deaths have been reported in Guinea, 22 suspected cases in Liberia including 14 deaths, 8 suspected cases in Sierra Leone including 6 deaths, and 1 suspected case in Mali.[106][107] Investigations on these are under way.[108][109][110]By late June 2014 the death toll had reached 390 with over 600 cases reported.[111] By 23 July 2014, the World Health Organization had reported 1201 confirmed cases including 672 deaths since the epidemic began in March.[112] On July 31 2014, WHO reports the death toll has reached 826 from 1440 cases. WHO – Ebola virus disease, West Africa – update 31 July 2014
In August 2014, Emory University Hospital will be the first US hospital to care for patients exposed to Ebola.[113] Two American medical providers (Kent Branty andNancy Writebol) were exposed while treating infected patients in Liberia will be transported to Emory via speciality aircraft. Emory Hospital has a specially built isolation unit set up in collaboration with the CDC to treat patients exposed to certain serious infectious diseases.
This is very serious, given the fact that there have been numerous reports of people from Africa entering in through our border with Mexico, and the WHO warns that the UK could be next, due to the high traffic there from Africa. I’m not saying there is need to fear, but it has become very serious. Samaritan’s Purse is reporting that 2 of it’s aid workers have contracted the disease in Liberia. So who will fill the need and the vacuum left by the pull out of aid workers? What does the World Health Organization plan to do? No plans are forthcoming, time will tell. But this in a world where medicine has reached a peak, this is outrageous. The world seems again helpless. It begs the question why world leaders like Obama and others seem almost flippant about this.
In other words nothing to see here, move along. Kind of like the statement: “I’m from the government and I’m here to help.” Besides we have got wealth to talk about and we can’t be left out of the divvies. So innocent people suffer once again, for the means to justify the end. The end for a grab for power and wealth. This summit coming up should be about the health of Africa the plan to stop the spread of this plague and ridding the country of evils like Boko Haram, Al-shabab, Al-Queda, and the Lord’s Resistance Army, Seleka and others. But instead it is a summit for economics. Maybe if there is time they will discuss this plague, after all it’s hard to catch according to our President. Maybe the World Health Organization didn’t get the memo.
