The spirit of man is his intellect and his soul is the flesh. So often we read in scripture of the importance of repentance and how we need to renew our mind! “And be not conformed to this world: but be ye transformed by the renewing of your mind, that ye may prove what is that good, and acceptable, and perfect, will of God”.(Romans 12:2).
The days we live in our body (The Flesh) will one day be judged by what we did with it. What is of the flesh and what is of the spirit war against each other and when we say we are redeemed and saved yet live according to the flesh is like saying we are a little bit pregnant. “And they that are Christ’s have crucified the flesh with the affections and lusts. If we live in the Spirit, let us also walk in the Spirit”.(Galatians 5:24,26). It just isn’t that way with the Spirit of God for the Spirit is given without measure. We are of Christ if we bring forth fruit fit for his kingdom and do not continue in the acts of the flesh. (Galatians 5:16-23).
“Dearly beloved, I beseech you as strangers and pilgrims, abstain from fleshly lusts, which war against the soul”.(1 Peter 2:11). It is written of the necessity of faith for the believer, as a Christian does not return to their old way of life they came from and they press forward in believing of the saving of the soul! “Now the just shall live by faith: but if any man draw back, my soul shall have no pleasure in him. But we are not of them who draw back unto perdition: but of them that believe to the saving of the soul”.(Hebrews 10:38,39).
The will of God is that we draw and stay close to him and stay away from evil so that we remain blameless of any sin committed. (1 Thessalonians 5:18-24). If we live our lives and not incorporate God into it and continue in sin then death to our soul is inevitable. And when all is said and done we stand alone before the judgment seat of Christ. “The soul that sinneth, it shall die. The son shall not bear the iniquity of the father, neither shall the father bear the iniquity of the son: the righteousness of the righteous shall be upon him, and the wickedness of the wicked shall be upon him”.(Ezekiel 18:20).
