“Teach us to pray.” The disciples asked Jesus. He didn’t only teach us how to pray to the Father, He taught us that by praying in this manner we were following in His steps and Gospel.
This prayer has been labeled as too ‘mundane’ for some denominations to pray in their worship service. Choosing instead flowery shouts of what they think is worship some even using special language they think comes from God.
How sad. How sad they miss the blessings that come from simply praying as Jesus taught.
How is this the Gospel of Christ? Let’s break it down.
Our Father who art in Heaven
This tells us what Jesus did many times when He told us He was sent by the Father, noone comes to the Father except by me. No one knows the time of my return except the Father in heaven. And many more references.
Hallowed be thy name
Jesus’ entire gospel teaches us reverence for God and His name is Holy.
Thy kingdom come, thy will be done on earth as it is in Heaven
This should be self explanatory. God’s kingdom is not of this world but when it comes it will be ruled as Heaven is and that God’s will not man’s will rule supreme.
Give us this day our daily bread
This refers not only to our nutritional needs but spiritual as well. Remember ‘thou shall not live by bread alone’. And Jesus referred to Himself as the ‘bread of life.’
Forgive us our trespass’s as we forgive those who trespass against us.
This not only teaches us to ask daily for forgiveness but to forgive those who sin against us also. This is the crux of the Gospel of Christ.
Lead us not into temptation but deliver us from evil.
Now some say this is not right as they say God does not lead us into temptation. But that’s not exactly what this implies. We are asking deliverance from temptation and evil just as Jesus was led away from the temptations of Satan.
For thine is the kingdom, the power, and the glory forever and ever.
The kingdom has always belonged to God and always will. Satan lost the battle and he will lose the final battle. All glory and power belongs to our Lord the ONE TRUE GOD AMEN!
So before you dismiss the Lord’s prayer remember you are also dismissing the Gospel of Christ. What better way to witness to non-believers than this prayer. Even Muslims. Thank you Lord for the gift of prayer.

Thank You for a post that says a lot ! It was always in simplicity our Lord taught and nothing fancy as you said. More and more churches think they have to strike up a band like a party to get people to gather’ when our Lord is low key and as written the meek shall inherit the earth. God Bless You. Very good read.

Amen. The ancient Church of the first 3 centuries did this. They would use the prayer our LORD+ taught HIS+ Disciples as an outline. They would pray this either alone or assembled together.
They also used these words from The MESSIAH to sanctify the Communion of The Body and Blood of our LORD+.
Thank you for this good reminder of REAL Christianity and what it means to actually follow JESUS.
Those “churches” who dismiss these Words spoken by The WORD+ of GOD HIMSELF as mundane are in deep trouble I am thinking. Substituting our own “traditions” for HIS+ Word is a recipe for disaster and shipwreck.
Bless you Sister C. J.
