It’s apparently all the rage lately, AI, or artificial intelligence – is now literally dominating the Christian music scene.
“An AI-generated Christian artist named Solomon Ray has taken the gospel music world by storm after topping the iTunes and Billboard charts with his album “Faithful Soul.”
“Described as a ‘Mississippi-made soul singer carrying a Southern soul revival into the present’ on his Spotify profile, Ray made waves after releasing the five-song EP on Nov. 7.” (Source)
I have to admit right up front, I am not a fan of AI, at all. I see only the danger in it, and little advantage. Now this computer driven “intelligence” is singing songs of praise etc., for God???
The title of this AI “album” is a joke to begin with, AI is not faithful, and it surely does not have a soul, seriously??? Solomon Ray is a “soul” singer bringing a revival into the present. So, a computer program is a soul singer, and is leading a revival in the Church? I don’t think so.
If we need AI to “lead” a revival, we are lost with no hope whatsoever.
I don’t see that there should be any debate about this whatsoever at all. This is AI, AI has no place in Christian music, period – full stop. AI is a chunk of metal, wires, silicon, and plastic, it’s a computer program, it’s artificial. Neither does AI have a soul, what business does AI have singing music that is meant to worship and glorify God?
Christopher “Topher” Townsend had this to say about his AI created “artist”,
“This is an extension of my creativity, so therefore to me it’s art,” Townsend said following the backlash against his AI creation. “It’s definitely inspired by a Christian. It may not be performed by one, but I don’t know why that really matters in the end.” (Source)
Wrong answer, it does matter, it matters a lot. I don’t care if this is “inspired” by a Believer, the fact remains that this is a computer program!!! Solomon Ray is a computer-generated image, with a computer-generated voice, fake. We’re supposed to worship with a soulless piece of tech singing? Seriously???
What’s next after this, a generated 3D hologram singing on stage with an AI voice, and synthesized instruments? Where does this stop?
It’s bad enough that there are people out there singing “Christian” music to line their pockets, giving no more than lip service to Christ. Now we are supposed to be good with a circuit board singing worship songs???
As to where this ends, I will tell you where this ends – it ends with another image that is not singing, but speaking, and you will worship this image, or you will be killed. Sound familiar?

Sorry I’m not ‘worshipping’ with something that is not real. This is ridiculous. Singer Forrest Frank says of it it does not have the Holy Spirit in it and it’s weird to open your spirit up to something that has no spirit. Exactly. Creative yes but that does not mean it’s ‘ok’. It’s not. More and more the church is sliding into not only being IN the world but being OF the world. Sad.
