I can remember as a child growing up in St. Louis, then the cold war was in full swing.  We were taught in school and actually had drills where we got down under our desks in case of a nuclear bomb.  Then we were taught to look for the white helmuts with the civil defense insignia for help.  Then we were told everywhere you go, make sure you know where the bomb shelters were.  These had yellow signs if I remember right with a triangle.  They were on most buildings.  It soon became a game to us kids, but fearful none the less.  I can’t imagine living like this:
