It’s believed to be the first “atheist church” and it is scheduled to hold its first “service” on Sunday in London, according to a report from The Christian Institute.“Stand-up comedians Sanderson Jones and Pippa Evans, who are behind the ‘church,’ say they like many aspects of religion but don’t believe in God,” the Institute reported yesterday.
So no problem. They’ve created plans for now for a once-a-month meeting for those who, well, don’t believe.
“We thought it would be a shame not to enjoy the good stuff about religion, like the sense of community, just because of a theological disagreement,” Jones said in a report by the Institute.
The result? “It’s part atheist church and part foot-stomping show. There will be a speaker on a theme each month but there will also be an awesome house band, which Pippa will lead. We’ll be helping people try and stick to their new year’s resolutions in the first service.”
The plans just went too far for the Rev. Saviour Grech, of St. Peter and St. Paul Roman Catholic Church.
Read the stunning “You Can Lead an Atheist to Evidence, But You Can’t Make Him Think” from author Ray Comfort, or Comfort’s “God Doesn’t Believe in Atheists.
“How can you be an atheist and worship in a church? Surely it’s a contradiction of terms. Who will they be singing to?” he said. “It is important to debate and engage with atheists but for them to establish a church like any other religious denomination is going too far.”
According to a report in the Islington Gazette, the group will meet in the Nave in St. Paul’s Road, Canonbury. Services will begin now and weddings and funerals will follow, planners said.
The comics report they will invite speakers to talk on a theme each month. Their first guest will be a children’s book author.

Thank you for bringing all of these things to our attention so we can pray…I have a tendency to think that generally, people have ‘become’ atheists because of 2 reasons. I know of many stories, but here is one of a woman who I had her child in my class when I taught yrs ago, and as a child she would crawl under her kitchen table to get away from her fathers rages when he was drunk, and she would pray and pray that God would help her and her family…however, things got worse and worse thru the yrs. Then as a very young adult she decided not to believe there was a God anymore. To me, she ‘really’ still believed there was One down deep inside…so what was actually going on was that she was very hurt and angry with God that He didn’t stop what she needed stopped. So, I believe most atheists know deep (some really deep) inside that there is a God, but are hurt and angry.
Then I also think that we as Christians (myself bigtime included here) have not shown….yes, talked a lot….but not shown the love of Christ and His reality in this world. Yet we do have the ability to do so….to obey the New Commandment in it’s totality.
Thank you and blessings to you!!!

Yes, there are many reasons for people to deny God, and that’s a big one. Because of their suffering. I was one of those. Than I realized that God didn’t cause my suffering, I did, with the choices I made. I came back, but we must remember to pray for those who dont believe in God also. Thanks for your prayers and support. Praying for wisdom, knowledge and guidance for us all.
