The quake struck at a depth of 5.8km (3.6 miles) near the Santa Cruz islands, part of the Solomon Islands nation, the US Geological Survey said.

A tsunami warning was issued for the South Pacific islands by the Pacific Tsunami Warning Centre.

The centre warned that the earthquake could trigger a “destructive tsunami” near the epicentre.

The warning was issued for the Solomon Islands, Vanuatu, Nauru, Papua New Guinea, Tuvalu, New Caledonia, Kosrae, Fiji, Kiribati, and Wallis and Futuna islands.

It was based on an earthquake evaluation, but “it is not known that a tsunami was generated”, the centre said.

A tsunami watch was issued for other nations in the South Pacific, including Australia, New Zealand and Indonesia.

  1. The Solomon Islands 8.0 magnitude earthquake struck on Feb 6, 2013 at 0112 UTC. A 7.0 magnitude earthquake – location not specified – was predicted for Feb 6 at 1700 UTC on astrosymm.com/ONGOINGPREDICTIONS.htm.
A precise symmetric pattern of both Saturn and Uranus with Pollux in the constellation Gemini was active on this date. Other symmetric subpatterns contributed to this intense event. Please check
astrosymm.com/EARTHQUAKES.htm for a diagram of the symmetry within the ecliptic plane.

    • Fascinating, thanks for the links. At first glance very informative. I suspected (not being educated in this) that the planetary alignments has a lot to do with earthquakes and weather. I will research this further. It looks like we’re in for a wild year with volcanos and earthquakes. I pray that all will be prepared. Thanks again. God bless.
