(Daily Mail) A Cub Scout leader who confronted an Islamic fanatic after he had executed a soldier in a Woolwich street said today: ‘I wasn’t scared. Rather me than a child.’

The moment fearless mother-of-two Ingrid Loyau-Kennett remonstrated with one of the killers, whose hands were blood-soaked and still carried knives, was filmed in the aftermath of the terror attack.

Today the suspect who gave a chilling rant to camera moments after the murder was named online as British Nigerian Michael Adebolajo – who is known by the Muslim name Mujahid.

48-year-old Ingrid Loyau-Kennett jumped off her bus when she saw the tragic soldier’s body lying in the south-east London street, checked his pulse and then tried to talk to the men who hacked him to death.

After pleading with them to hand her the weapons, one told her: ‘We want to start a war in London tonight’.

She replied: ‘Right now it is only you versus many people, you are going to lose’.

David Cameron today paid tribute to Mrs Loyau-Kennett in a statement outside Number 10, and said: ‘She spoke for all of us’.

‘Confronting extremism is a job for us all. And the fact that our communities will unite in doing this was vividly demonstrated by the brave cub pack leader – Ingrid Loyau-Kennett,’ he said.

‘When told by the attacker that he wanted to start a war in London she replied “You’re going to lose. It’s only you versus many.” She spoke for us all.’

Footage emerged from the scene of the murder soon afterwards yesterday, with a video released by ITV News, showing the first picture of a man with bloodied hands, carrying weapons and saying: ‘We swear by almighty Allah we will never stop fighting you’.

Witnesses said they apparently  shouted ‘Allahu Akbar’, which means ‘God is great’ in Arabic while hacking the poor victim to death.

After the attack, one of the men said in a clear south London accent: ‘You people will never be safe.

An eyewitness said Michael Adeboljo had been seen preaching in Woolwich town centre last week.

Jamie France, 29, who witnessed the attack from his 18th floor flat overlooking the scene, said his mother had recognised him instantly from film footage shot after the attack.

He said: ‘I spoke to my mum on the phone and showed her the video footage from the internet, and she told me that she recognised one of the men with the knife.

‘She said she’d seen him last week preaching in Woolwich town centre. She said she remembers him because he’d been really angry and was saying all this political stuff.’

In broad daylight, he and his accomplice had just repeatedly stabbed and tried to behead an off-duty soldier in front of passers-by.

The two black men in their 20s then waited calmly for the police to arrive before charging at officers brandishing a rusty revolver, knives and meat cleavers.

They were then shot by armed officers, and both suspects are under guard in separate hospitals this morning.

But it was a brave female Cub Scout leader who confronted the armed men.
