Blessings From God

As I sit this morning contemplating the Word of God, I was led again to the Psalms.  The introduction to the book of Psalms say’s it’s the most widely used book in the Bible.  It say’s every chapter contains some sort of praise for God.  Well with so much of the blessings and judgements listed in this book, how can people say that God wants to bless you with money, new cars, new houses and such if you just give me money, you will get money and riches in return?   The book of Job tells of God Blessing Job for his devotion to God and not cursing Him through trying times.  God tells of blessings to Abraham and His offspring, the nation of Israel.  But God didn’t just give these away because they asked.  God rewards us with blessings for following Him, just as he did Job, and Abraham and the nation of Israel.  Remember God asked Abraham to sacrifice His only son with Sarah, Isaac.  Anyway, I opened to the first psalm and found it to be full of God’s blessing, it’s not what you think, or at least not what some think.  The readers here who follow the spirit will not find this surprising.  Enough, let’s look at God’s word:

Psalm 1

Blessed is the man that walketh not in the counsel of the ungodly, nor standeth in the way of sinners, nor sitteth in the seat of the scornful.

2 But his delight is in the law of the Lord; and in his law doth he meditate day and night.

3 And he shall be like a tree planted by the rivers of water,

t

that bringeth forth his fruit in his season; his leaf also shall not wither; and whatsoever he doeth shall prosper.

4 The ungodly are not so: but are like the chaff which the wind driveth away.

5 Therefore the ungodly shall not stand in the judgment, nor sinners in the congregation of the righteous.

6 For the Lord knoweth the way of the righteous: but the way of the ungodly shall perish.

    • Thank you! I read that and it hit me hard I don’t know why I skipped over this Psalm before, but yes you are right on, it is very specific about who the Blessed are, and why we will be Blessed. God will bless you richly for keeping His words in your heart!

      • You see the picture of the dead tree you posted? If a believer in Christ does not do #1 and #2, he/she will not be fruitful and will not prosper, or will die like your tree. That explains why those who are not careful who they hang out with and why those who don’t study the Word for themselves remain spiritually immature and fall for false teachings, follow after wolves in sheep clothing, etc. But the end result is that they may likely die spiritually like the tree, and worse yet, be among the tares that will be separated from the wheat, and burned in the end.

Rev. 22:20 'Surely I am coming quickly, Amen. Even so, come Lord Jesus!'
