My Comment: Something has changed with our law enforcement. This is happening way too often. The article goes on to say that the screwdriver was small and not large. Why would men supposedly trained in how to disarm, shoot their weapon after they used a stun gun? Why does this keep happening? My heart and prayers are with the family.

The North Carolina State Bureau of Investigation has launched an investigation into the shooting of a mentally ill teenager by a police officer in Boiling Springs Lakes over the weekend.
Brunswick County District Attorney Jon David asked for the investigation after the shooting Sunday afternoon. One of three officers involved in the shooting was placed on administrative leave on Sunday, WECT.com reported.
Family members said they called police after 18-year-old Keith Vidal picked up a screwdriver and threatened his mother. The boy\’s father, Mark Wilsey Sr., said that initially officers were able to calm his son, who suffers from schizophrenia.
Wilsey said that when a third officer arrived, his son became agitated. Officers used a stun gun on Vidal and then a shot was fired and Vidal was hit, he added.

I agree, I can’t believe how often it’s happening. These officers have been trained not to use deadly force unless their life is threatened, why have they changed course? This should be unacceptable for society as a whole. My heart aches for this family.

Our culture has become more and more hostle to people with disabilities.

I agree, more should speak out with their representatives, the churches used to speak out and help more but that has even stopped to an extent. I am praying for eyes to open.

Yes, yes they do. Until people actually look and see that there is a definite problem, it won’t change their hearts. Their hearts have been hardened, now it’s easier to abort those with disabilities instead of caring for them. And those who do care for them are brow beat. I agree with you Catherine. I was raised different than most today. The youth seem to have no respect for life, dignity or liberty. Shut their eyes and it doesn’t exist. God see’s everything, He commands that we help those with disabilities. We can see this in Jesus’ teaching about the Beggar Lazarus and the rich man. Here is what God told the rich man (through Abraham) after he entered hell: “But Abraham replied, ‘Son, remember that in your lifetime you received your good things, while Lazarus received bad things, but now he is comforted here and you are in agony. And besides all this, between us and you a great chasm has been set in place, so that those who want to go from here to you cannot, nor can anyone cross over from there to us.’
The rich man passed by Lazarus every day, and turned his eyes from him, without offering assistance, and when he died he was judged for this. Jesus too warns us in Matthew when he is judging the sheep from the goats:
‘Depart from me, you who are cursed, into the eternal fire prepared for the devil and his angels. For I was hungry and you gave me nothing to eat, I was thirsty and you gave me nothing to drink, I was a stranger and you did not invite me in, I needed clothes and you did not clothe me, I was sick and in prison and you did not look after me.’
“They also will answer, ‘Lord, when did we see you hungry or thirsty or a stranger or needing clothes or sick or in prison, and did not help you?’
“He will reply, ‘Truly I tell you, whatever you did not do for one of the least of these, you did not do for me.’
“Then they will go away to eternal punishment, but the righteous to eternal life.”
I am sounding the warning, hopefully to wake more up from their sleep. The church has become too calloused and cold and only is concerned with worldly things to acknowledge the suffering and the less fortunate.
