I don’t know really where to start with this story, I thought it was a spoof, and I have to admit it feels like one.  This brings a lot of emotions and principles into light.  On the one hand it spotlights our Constitution that say’s we are free to worship how we want.  It brings back the principles we were founded on.  Prayer was said in all public schools until a few years ago.  The Bible was allowed in schools until a few years ago.  When I was in school evolution was taught along side of creationism.  Not much was taught about creationism, but it was taught.  Now so many of our rights as Christians have been pushed aside and stripped.  An Athiest named Madiline  Ohare took it upon herself to force everyone in the country to practice her religion of ‘there is no god.’  And now, even prayer at graduation ceremonies, sports games and any other function is banned and enforced with law.  The following is in the headlines today:

(Excerpt From Yahoo news)  The American Civil Liberties Union and the ACLU of Louisiana filed a lawsuit this week against a public school district in rural western Louisiana contending that school officials and at least one teacher harassed a Buddhist sixth-grade student for not adhering to Christianity. ACLU alleges comically unconstitutional religious harassment in rural Louisiana school – Yahoo News.

According to KSLA News the following statement was issued by the school district:

“The Sabine Parish School Board has only recently been made aware of the lawsuit filed by the ACLU. A lawsuit only represents one side’s allegations, and the board is disappointed that the ACLU chose to file suit without even contacting it regarding the facts. The school system recognizes the rights of all students to exercise the religion of their choice and will defend the lawsuit vigorously.”

Now I tend to agree with this statement.  When one side only is presented it does appear biased.  I searched a little background on the Sabine Parish School System.  I was surprised and happy actually to find on their page, listed under beliefs.  One of the first things listed was ‘We Believe God Exists.’  I say they deserve applause and honor for actually standing up to the oppression of Christianity and God when all other schools and even churches are folding.   I can’t find any of the major cable networks like CNN that have picked this story up. However the AP did a story, (Here) and it say’s the same things the others did.  There is a science teacher that gives quizzes with questions like ‘Look what the ______________created.’  Of course the answer is ‘Lord’.  The lawsuit claims that the teacher made fun of a Buddist student who wouldn’t answer it.  And of course agencies like the ‘Young Turks’ who claims to be the largest on line news agency picked up on it.  They claim they are ‘young  progressives, or insurgent members of a movement or political party.’  Also that they are young people who rebells against authority or societal expectations.  You can watch the video they did on this here.  They’re title for this video is One Sixth Grader’s Bully? – His Ignorant Bible-Thumping Teacher.  It left me with a sour taste in my mouth.  I do ascribe to the belief that everyone has a right to worship the way they want, no matter what the religion.  And that no one has a right to force their god or religion on others, but I believe this goes a bit overboard.  I would not place my children in a school, if I were a buddist or muslim or any other religion, if their belief statement said they believe different than me.  I would not take my children to a muslim school or any other school that went with another religion.  If you tried this with a ‘madrassa’ or muslim school I doubt it would make it to court.  So why the singling out of Christian teachings?

  1. Evolution totally ignores that fact that since the Bible says earth is only 6,000 years old, Jesus could have had a pet dinosaur. Yet we are never taught this fact in our so-called “schools.”
