There is much controversy of who the two witnesses are spoken of in revelation that will be here before the return of Christ. “And I will give power unto my two witnesses, and they shall prophesy a thousand two hundred and threescore days, clothed in sackcloth. These are the two olive trees, and the two candlesticks standing before the God of the earth. And if any man will hurt them, fire proceedeth out of their mouth, and devoureth their enemies: and if any man will hurt them, he must in this manner be killed. These have power to shut heaven, that it rain not in the days of their prophecy: and have power over waters to turn them to blood, and to smite the earth with all plagues, as often as they will”.(Revelation 11:3-6).

The answer lies in the old testament long before these events ever occurred . Who were the two that could cause water to turn to blood and  then who prayed it wouldn’t rain on the earth for three and a half years and then prayed it would and it did? This was Moses and Elijah! “And Moses and Aaron did so, as the Lord commanded; and he lifted up the rod, and smote the waters that were in the river, in the sight of Phar’-aoh, and in the sight of his servants; and all the waters that were in the river were turned to blood”.(Exodus 7:20)……….. “E-li’-as was a man subject to like passions as we are,and he prayed earnestly that it might not rain; and it rained not on the earth by the space of three years and six months. And he prayed again, and the heaven gave rain, and the earth brought forth her fruit”.(James 5:17,18).

We are shown in Zechariah when he asked who the two olive trees were and was answered they are the two anointed ones who stand by the Lord of the whole earth which would be Jesus! ” And I answered again , and said unto him, what be these two olive branches which through the two golden pipes empty the golden oil out of themselves? And he answered me and said, Knowest thou not what these be? And I said, No, my Lord. Then said he, These are the two anointed ones, that stand by the Lord of the whole earth”.(Zechariah 4:12-14).

We also know and have confirmation as we know Jesus is Lord of the whole earth and at the transfiguration it was Moses and Elijah who stood and spoke with him! “And after six days Jesus taketh with him Peter, and James, and John, and leadeth them up into a high mountain apart by themselves: and he was transfigured before them. And his raiment became shining, exceeding white as snow; so as no fuller on earth can white them. And there appeared unto the E-li’-as with Moses: and they were talking with Jesus”.(Mark 9:2-4).
