KARACHI: Six unidentified assailants on motorbikes opened fire on a bus belonging to the Ismaili community in Karachi’s Safora Chowrangi area, leaving at least 43 dead and 24 injured on Wednesday. via LIVE: 43 dead, 24 injured in bus attack on Karachi’s Ismaili community – The Express Tribune.
This community is described as a “peaceful global community living in peace with other religions.” Details are sketchy, as far as I can tell no one has claimed responsibility at this time. Pakistan is a country where Christians are targeted daily in one way or another, and there have been many attacks on the religious Shiite minority. Pakistan is 97% Muslims and Sunni’s form the majority. We are also finding out that ISIS has a heavy presence there.
“Over the years, Sunni–Shia relations have been marked by both cooperation and conflict.Sectarian violence persists to this day from Pakistan to Yemen and is a major element of friction throughout the Middle East. Tensions between communities have intensified during power struggles, such as the Bahraini uprising, the Iraq War, and most recently the Syrian Civil War and in the formation of the self-styled Islamic State of Iraq and Syria and its advancement on Syria and Northern Iraq.”
We will be watching and report any new developments. Our Hearts & prayers are with the victims of this horrendous, evil attack. To attack innocents in this manner is unfathomable.
